Jonathan Coleman
Jonathan Coleman is a 2018 graduate of Indiana State University with a Bachelor of Arts in piano performance. He studied piano under Dr. Beverley Simms and received a certificate in piano pedagogy under the guidance of Dr. Janet Palmberg. While at ISU, he had the opportunity of performing with the university symphony orchestra, symphonic band, and the Sycamore String Ensemble. Jonathan has experience playing in bands, churches, weddings, and accompanying soloists and choirs. He also attended the Haydn Classical Music Festival in Eisenstadt, Austria as a performer.
Jonathan has been teaching private piano lessons since 2016. He cares about music literacy and theory. As a teacher, his goal is to guide each student to achieve their goals. Jonathan has taught children as early as 5 years old and adults. In Fall 2017, Jonathan assisted Janet Palmberg in her Piano Kidzz program, an afterschool group piano program for young children who never took piano lessons. Students can expect a relaxed and professional environment. Jonathan is understanding of the student’s needs and expects each student to practice regularly to achieve their goals! |
Alexis Mumma
Alexis Mumma is in her 3rd year studying and performing at Indiana State University as an education major and. She has been studying piano and voice professionally for over 3 years. Throughout her time at ISU, she has learned various teaching techniques, strategies for early education, choral literature, and piano pedagogy. Alexis Mumma has taught several beginner piano courses and educational voice classes offered at ISU. Experience in local elementary school classrooms has provided her with insight into early education.
During high school, Alexis participated in vocal solo and ensemble multiple years. She also competed in ISSMA all four years. Her musical experience includes parts in High School Musical, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, and The Sound of Music. She currently performs for ISUs Sycamore Singers and Women’s choir. Alexis hopes to finish school in the next few years with a bachelor’s degree in music education with a principle in voice, in addition to a certification in piano pedagogy.
